Holland America Line is Carnival Corporation's premium-classic brand, with mid-size ships, a long history and an older, well-travelled clientele. It is one of the two leading Alaska operators, with Glacier Bay permits and its own lodges in Denali, and it specialises in longer voyages: Northern Europe and the fjords, transatlantic crossings, the Panama Canal, South America and Grand Voyages of several weeks. On board expect live music venues, culinary programming and a quieter pace with few children. Holland America suits travellers who care more about itinerary and service than water slides.

Holland America shares Carnival Corporation's approach: a basic fare plus a "Have It All" bundle with drinks, dining, Wi-Fi and excursion credit, priced separately on its US, Canadian, UK, Australian and European sites. Our coverage of the line is newer than for most others, so the price history is shorter, but the pattern is already clear: the same Alaska sailing can differ by several hundred between the US and European sites.
