Data methodology

How we collect daily cruise prices, what each number means, and where the gaps are. Last updated: 2026-10-29. Want to check the data yourself? Request sample data.

1. What we collect

One price snapshot per sailing × booking market per day, holding the price of each cabin category the line shows (one exception to the daily cadence is in section 3). A sailing is one departure date of one itinerary on one ship. The same sailing is collected separately in every market we track for that line, so the same cabin can be compared across countries on the same day. Market codes are language_COUNTRY: en_GB is the UK site, it_IT the Italian one.

2. Where the prices come from

Public booking websites selling each line in that market: the prices a visitor sees before logging in. We don't use trade or negotiated rates, and we don't book anything. Price collection involves no personal data. Prices are collected automatically from what the sites publish. track.cruises is not affiliated with any cruise line.

We answer due-diligence questionnaires and detailed collection questions one to one: support@track.cruises. Our legal entity details are in the API terms.

3. When

Prices are collected daily, and every record carries an updated_at timestamp showing when it was last refreshed. For some lines, sailings far in the future are refreshed less often, at least weekly.

Through the API, Ultra and Mega serve the same day's prices; Pro serves prices 7 days behind, with 90 days of history. Delivery is by REST API (JSON), bulk history export, or a one-off file.

Updated Nov 5, 2026. Span is the time since we started tracking a line, not a promise of an unbroken daily series. The same figures, with sailing and snapshot counts, are public at GET /coverage (no key needed).

Listed parents: CCL (Carnival Corporation) owns Carnival, Princess, Holland America, Costa and AIDA; RCL owns Royal Caribbean and Celebrity; NCLH owns Norwegian Cruise Line; Disney Cruise Line is part of The Walt Disney Company (DIS). MSC and Virgin Voyages are privately held.

5. What a price means

  • Per person, based on two guests sharing a cabin. Cruise only, except the cruisetour packages described in section 8.
  • The main cabin categories are normalised to Interior, Oceanview, Balcony and Suite. Some lines add their own categories or fare types (for example MSC Yacht Club, or Costa's fare tiers), which are kept as they are.
  • Taxes and port fees follow each line's own display in that market. For example, Carnival (United States) and Virgin Voyages show fares without taxes, while Carnival (Australia) and Norwegian (United States) include them. If your use depends on the tax basis for a line and market, ask us and we'll confirm it against the line's site.

6. Currencies

Each market is stored in the currency the line sells in (AUD, BRL, CAD, EUR, GBP, JPY, USD). The headline price of each sailing also carries a EUR conversion at a daily-refreshed exchange rate, so markets can be compared directly; cabin-level prices stay in the market currency.

7. Price history and price drops

  • A sailing's history starts on the day we first store it on sale.
  • Each day is its own snapshot, and a later reading never overwrites an earlier one. Days without a successful collection stay as gaps in the history; we don't estimate them.
  • The published price-drop feed only lists a drop when the new price is at least 3% below the lowest price for that cabin in the same market over the previous 30 days (with at least 7 days of prices), so a fare that moves back and forth is not reported as a drop.

8. Known limitations

  • History starts on a different date for each line (see the coverage table). Princess (Australia) history starts on 22 Oct 2026.
  • AIDA sells some sailings only as packages with flights. Those have no cruise-only fare and are not included.
  • Disney prices its Canadian and Australian markets in US dollars; we store what the line shows.
  • Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and NCL list some land-and-sea packages (cruisetours) as sailings, at the package price. Their titles contain “Cruisetour”, so they are easy to filter out.
  • When a line stops selling a sailing, the record keeps its last stored price, and updated_at shows when the record was last updated.

9. Licence and use

Use of the data is governed by the API terms, including what each plan may show to end customers. The data is provided by Track Cruises.
